Financial Tools

Business Health: Know what your financials are telling you.

A Profit & Loss statement (P&L) is one of the clearest ways to see how the business is actually performing. It shows how revenue moves through direct costs, labor, operating expenses, and ultimately into operating profit. This scorecard evaluates whether your team can turn those financial results into operating decisions.

It is built for developing operators who want to understand the business more deeply, and experienced leaders who want to pressure-test whether their financial review process is actually driving action.

What This Evaluates
1
Revenue Quality & Mix

2
Gross Profit & Variable Cost
Can you see where revenue is being lost before it reaches the bottom line?
3
Labor & Productivity
Are labor dollars and labor hours being managed together as an operating system?
4
Operating Expenses & Flow-Through
Can you separate controllable operating misses from fixed or structural costs?
5
Financial Review & Accountability
Does the financial review create understanding, ownership, action, and follow-up?
Important

A favorable line on the P&L is not automatically a healthy result.

Lower labor, better margin, or lower expense can be positive. They can also come from understaffing, deferred maintenance, poor service, inventory shortages, reduced marketing, or another decision that creates a larger problem later. The scorecard challenges both favorable and unfavorable results.
